Fun Weekend Post

We recently went to San Carlos, La Fortuna, home to the famous Arenal Volcano for a nice relaxing family getaway and so I wanted to share a few pictures of our adventures.  I have to say, it was a perfect weekend away from home.

Is That You, Summer?

Summer weather has finally arrived in San Jose and it feels glorious.  It's been weeks since we've had decent weather and with the Turrialba volcano constantly dumping ash everywhere, it was a nightmare of a summer.

It's finally hot, like no more sweats or sweaters:  it's shorts and T's for me!  The kids can finally play outdoors without having to bundle up (well, for Costa Rican standards anyway, which means a light pullover or sweatshirt).  I see a few park days ahead as well, just something to do before the kids go back to school.  We need to enjoy this beautiful weather because before we know it, it will be rainy season again and I am not a big fan of all that rain.

It does seem strange to me that summer seemed to have taken it's sweet time getting here, seeing that the kids will be starting school in less than a month.  It's like having summer weather while in school.  But I would rather warmer weather as the kids start school; it's better to have sunny school days than rainy ones.

Just Another Getaway

We decided to head off to the beach for another family getaway and this time we went to one of our favorite places, Puerto Viejo Limon.  The timing was perfect and for the first 2 days we were away, it was glorious.   We had a blast at Salsa Brava beach, where the water is always cristal clear and calm.  We also frolicked at Cocles and Manzanillo beaches, where fun in the sun was not just a mere dream but a reality.

Another Getaway

To be truly honest, we needed another vacation from our last vacation.  As nice as Tamarindo was, it was not as much fun as I had hoped traveling with my extended family.  So to make up for our last family vacation, we decided to book a last minute getaway to one of our favorite places to vacation: Puerto Viejo Costa Rica, as a special treat for hubby's 35th birthday.

I am so excited I can hardly contain myself.  We leave tomorrow and tomorrow can't come soon enough.  Now, I do have high hopes that this little getaway will make up for our vacation in Guanacaste even though I don't usually have high expectations when I go to the beach.  I just want to get away for a few days, relax and enjoy some time with family where I don't have to stress about what's for dinner, laundry or housekeeping.  I get to just BE.  And that is all I want on this trip...to just relax and BE!

Without my extended family with us, it will be a little easier to enjoy ourselves as we won't have to constantly make sure everyone is happy.   All we have to do is just worry about ourselves and we love a beach retreat no matter how simple it is.  My little sister will be tagging along as she does not go back to the states until the 12th of January, but I think she'll appreciate 2 days away.

Tonight I have to pack, but since it's only for the weekend, I'll be packing light.  We booked 2 rooms at Cariblue Hotel and Resort which makes me super happy because it's one of the many places we've been wanting to stay at in Puerto Viejo.  Cariblue is located a few miles from the main town in Cocles and buffet breakfast is included...YUM!

Are we feeling a little spoiled?  A little!  We never get to enjoy life like this:  2 beach vacations within weeks of each other.  I'd say we are feeling pretty lucky, indeed.

Happy New Year 2017

It's been a wild ride... 2016 was a blast.  We had our ups and we had our downs.  But it was all worth it in the end.  2016 year in review, here's a quick run down:  Hubby got a new job.  My family came to visit. Easter was a blast.  We bought a new family car.  Family came to visit and Christmas was fun filled.  We took our vacation to the beach and then ended the year with a bang (literally with all the fireworks).  It was one hell of a year.  And I hope for an even better 2017.  Happy New Year!!!
