One Last Party Before We Go

It's been a while since we've been to a legit party, where we had to dress to the nines and not have to worry about providing our own meal. In the midst of prepping for our trip, we got the chance to play dress up for a cousin's sweet 15 quinceaƱera.

It was nice, doing my hair, beating my face (with makeup of course) and putting on a fancy dress. There was food, dancing and lots of fun treats. It even got me in the mood to party once we're on our vacation. Which by the way, vacation in T minus 6 days. For the night though, I just wanted to let my hair down and have some good, innocent fun.

Quick Jaco Beach Trip

We didn't plan on going to the beach at all during the kids July vacation. We have two major vacations coming up and so all our energy, effort and money pretty much went to those two trips. But we couldn't resist a night away, so a last minute overnight trip was booked for Jaco Beach.

My youngest loves the beach and really wanted a day trip to fulfill his need for sand and sea. But hubby surprised him with an overnight getaway. We booked one of our favorite simple budget hotels and off we went, first stop Playa Blanca.

Beach Break Resort is cheap, simple and convenient.  Just about a 10 minute walk to Jaco center, it's the perfect budget spot for an affordable beach getaway.

The property is pretty spacious too, with four pools, two dedicated specifically for kids, a tennis court and a volleyball area on the beach. Oh and it's on the beach, if I forgot to mention that little detail.

The rooms aren't aesthetically pleasing but our room was spacious enough and I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was.

It was the perfect little respite, just what we needed.

Trying New Things And The Art Museum

As you may already know, if you follow my blog post,  I LOVE food! I love to eat.  Stuffing my face is one of my absolute favorite pasttimes and I take any opportunity I can get to do it.

I also love trying new things and new places so when I saw the delectable pan pancakes from Dushi Bakery on Facebook,  I had to give them a try. The skillet pancake was to die for. 10 out of 10, what foodie dreams are made of. The perfect sweet treat for breakfast or dessert.

Then, to keep to the food train on track, hubby and I decided to have a date day and scoured the streets of San Pedro for the best place to eat.

We landed on a Peruvian spot that looked pretty good. The menu was popping but unfortunately I ordered the wrong thing, as my meal was lack luster and lacking major flavor.

You'd think the signiture Peruvian dish would be the beat thing on the menu but it wasn't. Hubby liked his dish though, so that was a plus.

Enough about food, let's switch gears to culture for a bit. While the kids were on school break, it was nice finding fun and interesting things to do.  On of those things was visiting the Art Museum of Costa Rica.

Surprisingly we'd never been so it was definitely an experience.  The Museum is free, so yay for that. Art should be accessible to everyone as it's a part of the culture and helps preserve history.

It's also not a very big museum and doesn't have a ton of exhibits so it was nice strolling through without the rush and being able to visit every exhibit with intent.

Another interesting fact about the Art Museum ia that it used to be the Costa Rican Airport way back in the 1940s.

We had such an amazing time looking at all the amazing art and learning about history. It was the perfect way to spend an afternoon, a quick and affordable outing for all ages.

And to finally finish off the two week break with a bang, we had to go see the new Superman movie, which was pretty good if I do say so myself.

I wasn't sure I would be a fan of the new man of steel but I was pleasantly pleased and look forward to the second installment.
